Alana Battalino

Alana was born and raised in South Philadelphia. She moved to New York City to attend Marymount Manhattan College, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Digital Media Video Production. While in New York, Alana gained experience in business to business marketing, consumer marketing, public relations, and account management. After graduating, she moved back to Philadelphia and joined the Zivtech team in July 2018.

What’s the best part about working on a small team?

I really like the amount of collaboration between departments. I'm on the marketing team, but that doesn’t stop me from working with the project managers, or the designers. Being able to collaborate with other departments on ideas and projects gives you greater visibility into how each department operates. Small teams also allow you to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of your coworkers, which can help you forge better professional relationships with them.

How did your experience lead you to a career in marketing?

I double majored in communications and digital media video production in college. Both of those fields are fairly broad, so I relied on a series of internships to help narrow down my interests. First, I worked in marketing and public relations for an integrated marketing agency. Then I worked in marketing at a tech company where my responsibilities included content creation, lead generation, and social media management. Finally, I worked at a creative agency where I found myself doing a little bit of everything, from public relations to account management. I'm glad I had these opportunities while still in college because they're what led me to choose a career in marketing after I graduated.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be everything when I grew up. I went through the veterinary phase, the pop star phase, the artist phase, and the “whatever those people do on Criminal Minds” phase. At one point I was positive I could somehow combine all of them into a viable career. Still pretty sure I can.

What are you happiest doing outside of work?

Outside of work I really enjoy traveling. I’m pretty Type A, so planning trips is actually fun for me, and I love having things to look forward to. I’m currently working towards visiting every baseball stadium in the country.

What GIF sums up your personality?

This is the reaction I have in most situations. There’s nothing like staring at an imaginary camera like you’re on The Office to really emphasize how you're feeling.
